AYGF recently participated in the Meeting of the Standing Committee on Diaspora Matters, a high-level convening organized by the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) in partnership with the European Union and the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
The meeting brought together key stakeholders to address one of Nigeria’s most strategic national priorities — deepening meaningful engagement with Nigerians living abroad. Discussions centered on three core areas: identifying practical frameworks for strengthening diaspora engagement, improving coordination among the many stakeholders involved in diaspora policy, and reviewing progress made under the National Diaspora Policy Action Plan.
Nigeria’s diaspora represents one of the country’s most powerful yet underleveraged assets. From remittances and investments to knowledge transfer, professional networks, and advocacy on the global stage, Nigerians abroad have consistently demonstrated their commitment to the development of their homeland. Translating that commitment into structured, policy-driven outcomes is what meetings like this are designed to achieve.
For AYGF, participation in this process reflects a deeper conviction: that sustainable national development requires active, inclusive, and well-coordinated partnerships — partnerships that place the expertise, resources, and connections of Nigerians in the diaspora at the center of Nigeria’s growth story.
We look forward to continued collaboration with NIDCOM, the EU, UN Migration, and all partners working toward a more connected and prosperous Nigeria.
